This free-standing wall contains a bit of hidden engineering- a pull-out door
floats and visually carries the horizontal lines of the built-in display and storage system through
the room. Mirror wall, with detailed construction out of fir and a
minimal, balanced design, references the aesthetic elements of enclosed gardens and harmonizes the
space with the surrounding stripes of black bamboo visible outside.
clockwise from top
left: The framed square shape of mirror wall and the parallel
lines of the floating pocket door bring an order to this space which balances the optic effect of a
large mirror; detail of the side grain visible on the door slats, the other side of the mirror wall
is set with extra plywood panels from the ceiling; the door aligns flush when in the closed
position; the door when open is on a line with matching views of black bamboo through a window and
glass doors.
